Since two years it kicks ass weekly on approximately 16 radio stations worldwide as well as on the internet - on demand and live. In every show youll get two hours of the freshest freestyle music from all over the world, from miscellaneous labels and producers plus a DJ-mix from DJs like Carl Craig, Cinematic Orchestra, Louie Vega, Jazzanova, Roni Size, Richard Dorfmeister, Nicola Conte, Rainer Trüby and of course also from upcoming names like Trickski, Alif Tree or yet unknown new talents. Selected, moderated, produced, hosted and organized by Michael Rütten, a true Compost family member, who doesn't know any stylistic boundaries as long as it is soulful, interesting, fresh and of musical value. As everyone can see on this CD it's not about boring, mainstream orientated club- or radio-music but about the spirit of labels like Compost, Ninja Tune, K7, Versatile, Ubiquity, G-Stone, Playhouse, Talkin Loud, Blue Note, Verve, MPS, Stax, Motown, Warp, Kompakt, Sonar Kollektiv and many other small pressings. It's important to be open for everything, but also to have some kind of contour. Not every Compost-tune will be played but it's surely not a DJ-mix show with anonymous DJ-tools.
The close contact and intense exchange with labels, artists and DJs from all over the world makes sure that the Compost Radio Show is always up to date. Many inquiries like "Where can I get this music?", the heap of fresh promos and unreleased CD-R tunes and of course our intent to spread "good", radio-fit music all over the world brought us to the conclusion to release a CD with material from the radio show.
About Michael Rütten:
Special People have special passions that they carry with them all their lives and which become apparent in all their work passions that define their personality. Michael Rütten is one of these special persons, a very special character with a tremendous passion for music. It manifests and gets canalised in his work as a music-journalist (Jazzthing / Groove), DJ, producer (Soulpatrol), compiler and as organiser of parties.
That this kind of passion doesn't leave much time for anything besides his family (he has two daughters) seems quite understandable for such a soul-workaholic.
At the age of six little Michael Rütten already sat fascinated in front of the radio, tape-recording the songs he liked. Since 1997 he is hosting a weekly show himself which is now called: Soulsearching The Compost Radio Show.
Michael lives for the music, the name "Soulsearching" and his name as a producer "Soulpatrol" tell everything about it: Always searching the up-to-date song, new or old which needs to be discovered, aired, carried on or be dropped. It all started with pirate radio, reviews and his first bookings as a DJ and peaked in big club nights in Frankfurt and Darmstadt, Soulpatrol remixes (see record history below), columns and being on tour as a DJ through all of Europe. Soulsearching isn't his first Compilation, Michael Rütten already published four on Infracom and did Mix-CD's for Shadow /NYC, Compost Records, Worldwide, JOOP and many more. Today Mr Soulpatrol is the master of thousands of records. But despite the manifoldness of musical styles Michael Rütten's sense for good, soulful music works as a uniting element and this is what makes this living Soulpatrol so very likeable. But listen yourself. For Michael most important is the fact that his radio shows aren't DJ-mix shows but presented and moderated giving you good music, you wont find at other radio stations, and providing the background information on the music as well. Quite a few of the songs on the Compost Radio Show compilation are yet unreleased and almost all of them are available on CD for the first time. Fact! Well, you know the score
PS.: And please dont call it NuJazz! For Michael Rütten its all about Soul, Jazz, Funk, Afrobeats, simply the good stuff ever since. Now its called HipHop, Housemusic, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Afrobeats...You dig?
That´s where all this is comin from and where it's going...radio could & should sound like this.

"I definitely love milkaudio! it's really great to have the radioshows of the absolutely gifted dj's Gilles Peterson and Michael Rutten in one place. i hate radio in general because of the dumb music, but with this sound through the day I'm really happy. I'm a big fan of your site. Thank you for the music, lalalala.' (August, 25th, 2003)"

"Big Ups from S.Korea Hey there! The Compost Radio Show has delivered hours of funky goodness to me and provided many apartment dance parties so it seemed that the least I could do is send my thanks while hangover and eating toast. Those Eddy Meets Yannah, the Da Lata, Jeremy Ellis, Kyoto Jazz Massive remix tracks all A-stream business! Cheers!"
James Bamberger
"Michael, I cant begin to tell you how much I enjoy your show, and the whole Compost oeuvre! I must say how impressed I am by your knowledge and appreciation of American music, and its jazz, blues and soul heritage. Leave it to you guys to define the Future Sound. I love every bit of it. In that vein, I would like to inform you of my choice, Rainer Trüby, for your next guest mixtape! Many thanks. Keep on keepin on!"
