O-Bah

Daniel Magg - O-Bah

A Side
1. "O-Bah" – Serge‘s Remix
2. "O-Bah" - Hand Polished & John Kong Remix

B Side
1. "O-Bah" - Slope Remix Pt. 1
2. "O-Bah" - Juan Martinez Remix

"O-Bah" is a kinda rough mid-tempo afro tune with a slight techno edge. A cunning collaboration with Robert Jan Meyer of Minus 8. Genuine percussion, shouting synth cords and a tripped out synth solo make this one a winner on every leftfield dance floor. Kreativkombinat‘s Serge Davidov who´s also remixed fellow Augsburg boys Les Gammas' "Outra Vida" (CPT 111-1) has transformed "O-Bah" via masticator into a wild mess of electro peeps and cheeps, scratches, distorted vocals and yes, funky disco bass and beats with synthie-effects. Straight breakbeat from Ray and John Kong Canadian Moonstarr style enables you to get down and chill a bit. Beware, for slowly emerging "Slope Remix Pt. 1" features a fragmented and cunningly reconstructed "O-Bah" by Berlin-based Sonar Kollektiv act Slope who is has a new album in the pipeline. Jan Weissenfeldt, the guy behind Poets Of Rhytm or Syrup is tripping in the "Juan Martinez Remix", telling us that acid space beats are the place.

Daniel Magg - Set For Seizure

A Side
1."Set For Seizure" - Anthony Nicholson Miquifaye Mix
2."Set For Seizure" - Original

B Side
1."Set For Seizure" - Wagon Cookin‘ Remix
2."Set For Seizure" - Ennio Styles Remix

The "Set For Seizure" track is a good representative for a style often described as techno soul, blending the beautiful soul voice of Swiss singer Alessandro, with old school bass lines, hard drums and synthetic chords into a soulful thing. (My) House is my castle, Anthony Nicholson, the founder of Clearaudience Records, thought and softened "Set For Seizure" giving it spring time spirit with flutes twittering like birds.....a track to fall in love to. "Wagon Cookin‘ Remix" of Spanish brothers Javi and Luis is all lost in space, two voices dissenting slightly fuzzy and accompanied by delicate break beats. The Australian producer / DJ / radio presenter / journalist and vinyl junkie Ennio Styles has a reputation for pushing the boundaries of contemporary dance music and offers subtlety in his version: Slightly jazzy in the beginning, the track metamorphoses into a harder, almost ambient bridge with a hauling and rattling beat.

Former Worldless People member Daniel Magg has come along with a freshly squeezed debut solo album - Facets - on Compost Records. After having produced two 12-inches for Compost as well as a contribution to the "Compost 100" anniversary sampler alongside Worldless People partner Wolfgang Rüter, Daniel decided to go his own way launching his musical vision further and beyond.
Daniel describes this in his own words as an attempt to put his musical heritage and vision in an audible form, creating music with an energy level high enough to make an impact on dance-floors whilst still being musical enough for home listening pleasure.

The album may be labelled best as a collection of soulful tunes with some nice slants, each of them a testimony to Daniel"s love for warm and danceable vibes with a strong and sometimes rough edge from the leftfield house or Detroit camp. In the making of this album, Daniel has tried to capture the magical moments he witnessed as a DJ on dance floors all around the world, to add his own little "Facet" to the wide body of (dance) music.
To make this achievement, he teamed up with different musicians and producers whose music he felt a sympathy for, among them are Minus 8, Meitz, Philippe Kuhn aka gentlerain, member of Switzerland"s Loungechic Productions and former Worldless People Partner Wolfgang Rüter.

Daniel started getting into electronic music about ten years ago when he first fell in love with house and techno music at a local record store at the Lake of Constance in southern Germany, where he still lives in a small village right in the middle of Germany's most picturesque landscape. He started spinning tunes at well established and world renown South German techno club Douala. Thereafter he took over the musical coordination of the Metro Club in Friedrichshafen where he used to play until the end of 2001 and turned to the deeper and sonic side of things. International guests included Juan Atkins, Jazzanova, Rainer Trüby , Phil Asher, Dixon and so on. Since the release of his first single Daniel became in demand as an international player with tours in the USA, Australia, Portugal, Spain among others, and of course all over Germany and Switzerland. Nowadays Daniel"s DJing style is quite well represented, though not limited, by the musical range of his debut album "Facets".

About The Songs:

O-bah is a kinda rough mid tempo afro tune with a slight techno edge. Genuine percussion, shouting synth cords and a tripped out synth solo make this one a winner on every leftfield dance floor.
Set for seizure is a good representative for a style often described as techno soul, blending the beautiful soul voice of Swiss singer Alessandro, with old school bass lines, hard drums and synthetic chords into a soulful thing.
Red Earth is truly a real fusion tune, blending dubby afro, disco and jazz influences into an elusive
sound-scape
Different Place is a floor rocking jazz-house gem feat. nice slightly bebop styled female vocals, a punchy but classy bass line and great keys.
Reminiscing is a tune that tries to bring back the original garage vibe of the Eighties.
The Last Samba features everything a good brazilesque piece needs: flying samba drums, a rocking bass, skilful pianos and a beautiful female vocal that catches the mood between Tristeza and Saudade. Plus it has the party appeal that makes samba samba!
Yiy" Imbizo is kind of a reminiscence to the great days of disco, when restriction where low and possibilities open. Using the great voice of South African singer Vido Jelashe this one is a true heavy vibe. Hothouse! Come dancing, that"s what the title says.
Sweep explores the more authentic technoide side of Daniels pedigree, still maintaining housy deepness and a jazzy feel.
Electrica is a real electro fusion jam, with upfront beats, tripped-out synths, counterpointed by a nice guitar and sweet string layers.
Grey is a true testimony to the love of deep house, blending nice organ chords, live strings and the great voice of Alessandro into a deep and moving tune.
Shine A Light follows in the footsteps of the great tradition that American house and garage producers left to follow. Afro percussion, bass and acoustic guitar, as well as the rich keys, sexy lyrics and again the fantastic voice of Alessandro, make this one a tune to let yourself fall and celebrate life!
