* unreleased yet

Three years down the line since the release of their last album, "Confusion", the guys are back for more. Whereas "Confusion" featured divine artists of distinction laying their hands on Fauna Flash tracks, it´s all upside down this time: Fauna Flash don´t let remixe, they opt for DIY and remix divine artists of distinction!

"Worx - The Remixes" offers a bunch of delicate Fauna Flash remixes of the past few years, chosen out of their total of over 30 remixes, compiled and remixed by the boys themselves. With previously unreleased tracks as well as two brandnew remixes, Rodney Hunter "Take A Ride” and Megablast "Jubita”!

With their debut "Aquarius" they achieved and established a reputation as essential part of the royal European drum´n bass household during the last half of the 90s, German kings of D´nB! "Probably the best drum&bass album from Germany so far" sighed Kruder & Dorfmeister and British NME (NewMusicalExress) rhapsodized "Fauna Flash have solved one of the great puzzles of the late-20th Century: How to take the excitement and energy of drum & bass on record and translate it to a 'live' setting. And as a result, they're going to be lauded and adored wherever they go. Fact!"

On the follow-up of 2001, "Fusion", Prommer and Appel extended their musical focus on downtempo / dance soul in all its colours and variations. Through combining elements of house, dub, jazz, latin, brazil, hiphop and soul, they created a new musical tight as tight can be unit, an identity stamped by urban club music.

Though there weren´t any FF releases since 2002, the two Munich-based producers Christian Prommer and Roland Appel have never been off-screen but in fact bizzy as ever with a zillion remixes and side projects: in 2003 they released the highly-praised "Baby3" 12" of Voom:Voom, their project along with G-Stone Peter Kruder as well as the eagerly-awaited Trüby Trio debut "Elevator Music" and in November 2004 the "Retreated" Trüby Trio remixes double cd. Talking about the art of refining: Their remixes are pretty much sought after, demands en masse and both of them are kinky/dinky clubfiller DJs, regularly booked for the most notorious clubs around the world. They also enchant festival crowds, be it Swiss Montreux Jazz Festival or the Roskilde in Denmark.

01. Roberto Di Gioia's Marsmobil "Flowers” Fauna Flash Remix

Roberto Di Gioia already teamed up with (Jazz) artists as important as Gary Peacock, Dave Holland, yep even Charlie Watts of the mighty Rolling Stones and is nowadays a regular member of the Till-Brönner-Band. In the past few years he´s worked on countless productions such as the "Neon Golden" album of The Notwist or "Reset the Preset" of Console. Towards the end of the 90s he founded the "Marsmobil": Nu-Jazz, minimal-electronic, lounge pop and Burt-Bacharach-like orchestration.

02. Fon-Kin "Montininja” Fauna Flash Remix

Fon-Kin are made of three DJs hailing from Southern Germany, Robert Vogt, Harald Zankl and Stefan Baumgartner to be more precise. On M.O.V.E. Productions they produce hiphop projects like Black Knowledge, PHG´s or Mad Fam. Not only did Fauna Flash turn Monty Alexander`s "Monticello" into an abstract triphop remix, moreover they made it a "Montininja". Noteably: This remix can be regarded as stepping-stone of their musical career. Dating back to `95, it was there their first remix ever!!!

03. Abdullah Ibrahim " Sweet Samba” Christian Prommer Remix

Abdullah Ibrahim is clearly among the most gifted and important Southern-African musicians, combining traditional African music with contemporary/classic American jazz. He´s playing the piano, composing, arranging, leading a band and also teaches. Like noone before he´s managed to give multicultural South-African music its very own distinctive note. Beware, the Prommer remix is a real workout-shuffle!

04. Rivera Rotation "Dedicado” Fauna Flash Remix

Producer Pete Rivera of studio collective Rivera Rotation has been active spinning soul, deep house, latin and jazz for like two decades. The operator of Hamburg´s lovely Lounge Club (yes, it is in the redlight district) gained a name through his "Music For Modern Living" compilations on Lounge Records. The Fauna Flash dedication is all jazzy, techy, electronic house.

05. The Underwolves " Shaken” Fauna Flash Timbales Remix

Let there be roots-minded percussion style, tribal house with spacy vocals and a mighty bastard of a beat construct. Voila, the Timbales Remix of "Shaken". That´s what British Ned Kelly and "six foot three" Professor Stretch aka The Underwolves go for. By the way, the vocals on "Shaken" are provided by Jeb Loy Nichols himself, one of the multitudinous guests off the "Under Your Sky" album (released 2001 on JCR).

06. Grupo Batuque "Ole Ola” Fauna Flash Remix

"Ole Ola" by Dom Um Romao somehow sounds like a football tune. Wouldn´t there be this aggressive bassline of the Fauna Flash remix. Grupo Batuque - the godfathers of African brazil. A batucada / samba collective on Far Out Recordings, with Wilson des Neves (president of the Escola de Samba Imperio Serrano), Mamao (drummer with Azymuth), Dom Chacal , Zezinho, Robertinho Silva, Aleuda, Aparacedinh and Leo Leobonz (percussionist with Mongo Santamaria and the Fania All Stars).

07. Hajime Yoshizawa "Endless Bow” Fauna Flash Remix

The pianist with Sleep Walker (Especial Records / Extra Freedom) is sort of a Japanese prodigy, started off playing piano at the tender age of 2 and has been in the Japanese charts with his electronic soulful jazz. The formative platform for his keyboard playing and production talents was Cosmic Village, the band he´s been in with Shuya Okino of Kyoto Jazz Massive and others. The "Endless Bow" remix satisfies with improvised jazz sounds and superb off-beats, positive vibes all over.

08. Minimal Compact "Shouts and Kisses” Fauna Flash Remix

In the 80s audience and press passionately fell for Minimal Compact´s heavily Middle-Eastern coloured brand of new wave funk, based on driving rhythms and dominated by Samy Birnbach´s (DJ Morpheus) deep, prophetic voice. They played a crucial role in the European rock scene. Fifteen years later their stuff was tuned by big Djs resulting in the "Returning Wheel" remix album von Crammed Discs. And that´s where this "Shouts and Kisses" remix was licensed from.

09. Joseph Malik " Diablo” Fauna Flash Remix

It takes two to tango! Fauna Flash put "Diablo" (The Road To Seville) through the meat grinder, a 4/4 deep tech electronic sparkler with acid dashes for the dancefloor. The original version is a dark Spanish tango breakbeat, dedicated to the journey of Compost singer / songwriter Joseph Malik´s favourite football team, Glasgow Celtic, as the progressed through Europe to the UEFA cup final in Seville.

10. Rodney Hunter "Take A Ride” Fauna Flash Remix

Rodney Hunter, co-founder of Uptight Records, started off playing bass with hiphop band The Moreaus. Who can be pinned down as hotbed of today´s music scene, for his bandmates were no one else than Peter Kruder, master MC Sugar B and hiphop god DJ DSL. On his curiously-awaited debut "The Hunter Files" on G-Stone / Vienna he´s redefined the funk, groove, soul and relaxation mode, that emboss his mutation from music boy to music man.

11. Megablast "Jubita” Fauna Flash Remix

Soft broken bea(s)ts, warm soul vocals, digital latin rhythm, broken beat bossanova and a little bit offbeat-southern soul new phily soul movement style. Shake and stir and boom, Megablast - the current project of Austrian Sascha Weisz / Luvlite Recordings. While his `Showgirlz` and `Feel Alive` 12"s caused a fair commotion, his eagerly awaited debut album of 2003 was poised to do the real damage: Drawing on dub, groove, breaks, soul, jazz, afro and funk!

12. Hidden Agenda " Low Jazz Fidget” Fauna Flash Remix

Jason and Mark Goodings have been Hidden Agenda ever since the wacko mid-90s, releasing rare groove-dnb-electro-downbeat gems on Metalheadz, Reinforced and Creative Source. They´re never tired coming up with new flavours and like to fry broken beats for the Swiss record miss Straight Ahead where the refreshing „Whatever Happened To“ album was released. For so many producers and Djs Hidden Agenda have been a source of great inspiration, always on the cutting edge.

13. Klaus Doldingers Passport "Ju-Ju-Man" Fauna Flash Remix

Klaus Doldinger is one of the most famous German jazz musicians, composer of themes such like "The Boat" (Wolfgang Petersen) and "Tatort" (notorious German "whodunnit" series. His slightly poppy poppig fusion-jazzrock formation Passport has been active in varying set-ups and often is labelled the European version of legendary Weather Report or McLaughlin`s Mahavishnu band.

5. "Ten" Pole Remix

6. "Free" Salvador Group Remix

7. "Ten" Kyoto Jazz Massive Remix

8. "Alone Again" Dixon`s Stripped Down Dub

9. "Tel Aviv" Charlie Dark Remix

10. "Mother Nature" Blue Foundation Remix

1. "Mother Nature" dZihan + Kamien Remix
dZihan & Kamien are the new Downtempo Kings from Vienna. Like many others walking in the footsteps of Vienna’s Kruder & Dorfmeister-likewise-sound, they are the ones to spot. Their releases on their own label Couch Records are mostly delightful downbeat gems. The Fauna boys recently contributed a remix for dZihan & Kamien’s Remix Album and now dZihan & Kamien deliver the answer. With music as smart and polished as this track you can’t go wrong, get ready to relax and let the vibes surround you.

2. "Question" Stereotyp "Booty Call” Remix (only on 12” & CD)
Stereotyp who acclaimed big respect in the dance underground scene for his recent releases on G-Stone Records did a great remix of the Fauna track "Question”. Stereotyp defined his very own downbeat style, which is deeply influenced by darker Detroit-like sounds. Like hardly any other producer at the moment he understands to create this very tense atmosphere and combine it with pure groovyness. His remix for the Faunas has all these qualities – it’s something truly special, not to be missed. The Faunas are very pleased with this mix and they will do a payback remix for one of the tracks of Stereotyp’s forthcoming album.

3. "Tel Aviv" Stephane A. Main Pass
Stephane Attias, head of Chic Records and brother of West-London fame Alex Attias, comes up with a truly pleasing version of "Tel Aviv”. The track is very deep and includes some jazzy elements, so this is a perfect Downtempo House track.

4. "Tel Aviv" Peter Kruder’s Bum Rush The Discotheque Remix (only on 12" & CD)
Fauna friend and partner Peter Kruder picked the track "Tel Aviv" for individual rework. Peter Kruder who already worked with the Fauna boys under the name of Voom : Voom (so far they released two 12" on Compost) takes "Tel Aviv" on a funky like hell disco electro stomper trip. The beats might start rather familiar but as soon as this distinctive distorted sound comes into the track you’ll know the score. Peter does it 80’s likewise. Forget everything else, this sound rules - now.

5. "Ten" Pole Remix
The Fauna boys are good friend with Pole for many years now. Back in the time when Pole worked at Dubplate & Mastering, he was the engineer of Fauna Flash. He is a companion since the very beginning of Fauna’s musical career, and the boys deeply appreciate his work.
Today Pole is a highly respected international well-known "Electronica” producer from Berlin – his remix ...a stunning tune. The track was already featured on the CD Version of the Compost 100 compilation.

6. "Free" Salvador Group Remix
Salvador Group are one of the most talented newcomers from Germany in the leftfield dance area. When you listen to this track you might think of Carl Craig and The Cinematic Orchestra, but this is miles away from simply copying styles. This is unique and very very good. Check out their first 12” on Compost (CPT 092).

7. "Ten" Kyoto Jazz Massive Remix
When the Faunas were on tour in Japan they agreed on a remix trade with Kyoto Jazz Massive. As a payback for their remix, Fauna Flash made a remix for Hajime Yoshizawa’s track "Endless Bow”, which is out on Kyoto Jazz Massive’s own label Especial Records.
Japan’s Kyoto Jazz Massive once again prove that they are able to put out tracks on a constant top quality level. Typically the track pleases with plenty of free improvised jazz sounds alongside with great programmed off-beats, but best-done are the perfectly built in vocals. Positive vibes all over.
Kyoto Jazz Massive just released a new 12” on Compost Records (CPT 093), including the new track "Substream” and two Afronaught remixes of "Eclipse”.

8. "Alone Again" Dixon`s Stripped Down Dub
Dixon, long time Jazzanova friend and producer of the very successful DJ-Mix series "Off Limits”, gets down for some strictly deep house business. Being one of the most famous German House DJs and having his residence at Berlin’s number one club WMF, Dixon knows exactly how to produce music which kicks the dancefloor.

9. "Tel Aviv" Charlie Dark Remix
Charlie Dark, founding member of Attica Blues, comes up with a superb House version of "Tel Aviv”. The remix shows the rough side of Charlie Dark. The bass is dark and distorted, the atmosphere is very moody and jazz elements sparkle in from time to time – music for all true underground heads. Fauna Flash are very happy to have Charlie Dark amongst their remix artists as they are both big fans of Charlie’s musical work.

10. "Mother Nature" Blue Foundation Remix
Blue Foundation asked to do a remix of "Mother Nature” and they came up with a superb mixture of Sugar’s vocals and their own rap-vocals. A true hip hop atmosphere and a twisted bassline give this version the right vibes.
Blue Foundation recently released their debut album on April Records. Nice downbeat and Hip Hop !!

| Question

...

Some well-known insiders, who have already listened to the album, claim that this is the best Compost artist-longplayer so far in the history of the label.
The producer-duo describes "Fusion" as logical progression in Drum'n Bass with all its different opportunities to express the genre and fuse it with other genres (House, Dub, Jazz, Latin, Brazil, Hip Hop or Soul music) as the name of the album implies. All these elements together form a completely new integrated whole, an identity influenced by Drum'n Bass and urban leftfield club music. The red line is "Fusion", but "Fusion" is more. The name stands for flexibility, deepness, old and new influences, for state of the art big city music with plenty of drums, breaks, groove and harmony. This is not surprising as both producers are professional musicians (they are both drummers); people who have already seen them live know the score.

Almost similar to a Fauna Flash DJ-Set, the record draws a tremendous curve - it sends you on a journey through all sorts of moods - but in the end it all results in one harmonic picture.
Thanks to this eclectic blend, tracks of the album are played by DJs from different fields in dance music as for example Gilles Peterson (Talking Loud), who already played some tracks on his worldwide radio show, Rainer Trüby (Trüby Trio, Compost), Peshay (Blue Island), Tom Middleton (Global Communication, Cosmos), Karl Injex, Michael Rütten, Kruder & Dorfmeister and Kyoto Jazz Massive.

"Fusion" in the Fauna studio: Guest musicians and artists include the one and only Sugar B from Vienna ("Mother Nature"), the House-Diva Deidra Jones from USA ("Free" / "Ten"), the Aphrodelics, the piano player Michael Mettke and the saxophone player Johannes Enders. And of course there is old Fauna Flash companion Raoul Walton from N.Y.C. on bass.

About the tracks:

Mother Nature: Mother Nature is the Healer. Recorded at the Schräbergarten of the Vienna native Sugar B. Swound-Sound forever!
Percussion: Tribut to Tito Puente.
Free: Disco flavoured Drum & Bass
Tel Aviv: Giles P. favourite. Hommage to Tel Aviv, six o' clock a.m. at the city beach in white bathrobes.
Alone Again: What a bassline. Is Bernard Edwards still alive?
Referee: Homage to Colina. And a farewell to the jazz-police.
Ten: Finished at tenth. Nr. 1 in the Compost office. Perfect amalgamation of boogie, funk, club, breakbeat, house.
Morning: dark cinematic soundscapes with beautiful voice of Marzenka.
Sunday At The Getty: Impressions from the US tour. No samples! Real. Cool. Calm.
Question: Answer: Fauna vs. Aphrodelics. Good combination of HipHop Hurrah and Fauna's productions skills.

This is what you might not expect from German drum & bass!

Since their first release on Compost in 1995 Fauna Flash became the first German drum & bass outfit getting props from the Metalheadz posse like Grooverider and Fabio who played their dubs on their BBC 1 radio show "One In The Jungle"! All this resulted in a 12" exclusive release on Peshay's label Elementz and their track "At The Movies" appeared on the famous drum & bass compilation "Promised Land 3". Fauna Flash tracks are also played by DJs like Peshay, Kemistry & Storm, Fabio, Grooverider, Kabuki and are listed in Gilles Peterson's personal charts in Straight No Chaser.

Fauna Flash just finished a new remix for Waldeck called "Defenceless" (Spray/BMG) and did a Force & Paul remix called "Blue Movie" on Compost.
